Oranjestad, Jan. 14, 2025 - Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt today appointed Michiel G. Eman, party leader of the Aruba People's Party (AVP), and Gerlien L. Croes, party leader of FUTURO, as formateurs for the formation of a new cabinet. This appointment follows the final report of informateur Tisa LaSorte, who reported on December 27, 2024 on the willingness of AVP and FUTURO to form a government together.
Prior to their appointment, both Eman and Croes were subjected, with their consent, to judicial and state security investigations in accordance with the National Ordinance on Ministerial Integrity of December 17, 2021. The results of these investigations were shared with the Chairman of the Advisory Council and the Governor.
The formateurs are tasked with forming a stable cabinet that enjoys the confidence of the AVP and FUTURO State parties. The new cabinet must include persons capable of implementing sound financial-economic policies, with special attention to the cost of living in Aruba. In addition, they must draft a coalition agreement between AVP and FUTURO and determine the portfolio distribution within the new cabinet. Candidates for the positions of minister and minister plenipotentiary will be tested beforehand against the requirements and procedures as laid down in the Landsverordening integriteit ministers.
Eman and Croes must report their findings in writing to Governor Boekhoudt by February 18, 2025. In the meantime, they will keep the Governor informed orally or in writing on the progress of the formation. The group leaders in the States have been informed of the formation assignment and requested their cooperation in this process.
If the formation succeeds, the formators will formally accept the assignment, as is customary.
