Lokale onderzoekers gebruiken de naam <em>Arubaconus hieroglyphus<\/em>, al is die benaming internationaal nog niet officieel aanvaard. De soort komt voor zover bekend alleen op Aruba voor.<\/p>\n<p>De zeeslak is aangetroffen in het zeegebied bij Arashi, op een diepte van ongeveer 4 tot 6 meter. Het dier leeft in grof wit zand, in de nabijheid van rotsen, dood koraal en koraalriffen. De schelp heeft een spiraalvorm die uitloopt in een roze punt en voelt ruw aan door fijne ribbels en lijnen. De kleur bestaat uit een patroon van zwarte, bruine en witte vlekken. Volwassen exemplaren kunnen een lengte van circa 21 millimeter bereiken.<\/p>\n<p>In de schelp leeft het weekdier zelf, een zeeslak. Zoals andere soorten uit het geslacht <em>Conus<\/em> is ook deze soort giftig. Het dier beschikt over een gifzak en gebruikt tijdens het jagen een lange, flexibele, harpoenachtige radulatand om een prooi te verlammen. De prooi wordt via zintuiglijke signalen opgespoord en vervolgens met gif ge\u00efnjecteerd. Na de maaltijd stoot het dier de gebruikte tand samen met resten af en vormt daarna een nieuwe tand.<\/p>\n<p>De Conus hieroglyphus heeft zelf ook natuurlijke vijanden. Onder meer schildpadden, roggen, vissen, krabben en kreeften eten zeeslakken.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens onderzoekers wordt de populatie bedreigd door de ontwikkeling van toeristische infrastructuur, die invloed heeft op het leefgebied. Ook baggerwerkzaamheden vormen een risico voor het voortbestaan van de soort. Daarnaast nemen bezoekers van het gebied de schelpen soms mee, waardoor het dier sterft.
