ORANJESTAD<\/strong> \u2013 AVP-parlementari\u00ebr Clifford Heyliger is tijdens het 24e statutaire congres van de Organizaci\u00f3n Dem\u00f3crata Cristiana de Am\u00e9rica (ODCA) benoemd tot adjunct-vicevoorzitter voor het Caribisch gebied. Het congres vond van 4 tot en met 6 juni plaats in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia.<\/p>\n

Heyliger nam deel aan het congres namens de AVP en Aruba. De ODCA is een regionale politieke organisatie die meer dan 35 partijen uit 25 Latijns-Amerikaanse en Caribische landen verenigt. De AVP is daarbij aangesloten als actief lid.<\/p>\n

Gastheer van het congres was de Colombiaanse Conservatieve Partij. De plenaire sessies werden gehouden in het Senaatsgebouw van Colombia, in aanwezigheid van verschillende politieke leiders, onder wie senaatsvoorzitter Ephraim Cepeda. Het evenement werd live uitgezonden.<\/p>\n

Tijdens het congres kwamen diverse internationale en regionale vraagstukken aan bod. Zo werd gesproken over de gevolgen van de oorlog in Oekra\u00efne voor de begrotingen van Europese landen, waarbij middelen die eerder voor humanitaire hulp waren bestemd, volgens de deelnemers steeds vaker naar defensie en veiligheid gaan.<\/p>\n

Ook het gebruik van \u2018soft power\u2019 in internationale betrekkingen werd besproken: invloed uitoefenen via economische en culturele middelen, zonder militaire inzet. Verder werd aandacht besteed aan de verspreiding van desinformatie via sociale media, het wegvallen van de aanwezigheid van USAID in de regio en de gevolgen daarvan, evenals de strategische rol van de Europese Unie in Latijns-Amerika.<\/p>\n

Volgens het persbericht was er daarnaast zorg over bedreigingen voor de democratie in de regio, waaronder de opkomst van politieke partijen aan de uitersten van het spectrum. Ook georganiseerde criminaliteit werd genoemd als een serieus risico voor de stabiliteit in Latijns-Amerikaanse en Caribische landen.<\/p>\n

Aan het slot van het congres vonden verkiezingen plaats voor een nieuw bestuur. Daarbij werd Heyliger gekozen tot adjunct-vicevoorzitter voor het Caribisch gebied.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
