ORANJESTAD \u2014 RAIZ-leider Ursell Arends heeft zich donderdag uitgesproken tegen wat hij omschrijft als desinformatie over een recent rapport van FitchRatings. Aanleiding is volgens hem een Facebook-publicatie van parlementari\u00ebr Edgard Vrolijk, waarin het rapport Caribbean Credit Profiles Improve, but Structural Challenges Remain<\/em> zou zijn gebruikt om kritiek te uiten op de partij RAIZ.<\/p>\n

Volgens Arends bevat die publicatie “onjuiste, uit hun verband gehaalde en ongefundeerde” beweringen. Hij stelt dat het Fitch-rapport op geen enkel moment melding maakt van RAIZ, noch de partij aanwijst als oorzaak van politieke instabiliteit of als obstakel voor fiscale hervormingen.<\/p>\n

Arends zegt dat hij niet alleen zijn partij wil verdedigen, maar ook de integriteit van het publieke debat. “Dit soort manipulatie is niet onschuldig. Het is een poging om desinformatie te cre\u00ebren en twijfel te zaaien op een cruciaal moment”, aldus de RAIZ-voorman.<\/p>\n

Ter onderbouwing verwijst Arends naar passages uit het rapport waarin Fitch juist spreekt van “strong rule of law” en een “long record of political and social stability” op Aruba. Ook wijst hij erop dat Aruba door Fitch is opgewaardeerd naar investment grade-status BBB-, met een positieve outlook. Volgens hem baseert Fitch dat mede op de kracht van het bestuur, de lopende fiscale hervormingen en de verwachting dat die worden voortgezet.<\/p>\n

Verder stelt Arends dat analisten van Fitch, Joshua Grundleger en Richard Francis, per e-mail zouden hebben bevestigd dat in hun publicatie geen verwijzing naar RAIZ of politieke zorgen voorkomt.<\/p>\n

De RAIZ-leider suggereert dat de door Vrolijk gedeelde afbeeldingen geen weergave zijn van het offici\u00eble rapport, maar een persoonlijke interpretatie of een via kunstmatige intelligentie gegenereerde samenvatting. Hij noemt het zorgwekkend als een parlementari\u00ebr dergelijke informatie publiek verspreidt zonder het volledige rapport zelf te hebben geraadpleegd.<\/p>\n

Arends roept de bevolking op om kritisch te blijven bij het consumeren van politieke berichtgeving en zich te baseren op controleerbare feiten. “Laat niemand anders voor u denken. Lees, verifieer, beoordeel en vorm uw eigen mening”, aldus Arends.<\/p>\n
