ORANJESTAD \u2014 Aruba beschikt sinds deze week officieel over een eigen Climate Impact Atlas<\/em>, een digitaal platform dat de huidige en verwachte gevolgen van klimaatverandering op het eiland in kaart brengt. De lancering vond plaats aan de Universiteit van Aruba, waar lokale en internationale deskundigen stilstonden bij de ontwikkeling en het belang van het platform.<\/p>\n

Volgens het National Climate Resilience Council Aruba (NCRC) bundelt de atlas essenti\u00eble informatie over klimaatverandering op Aruba op \u00e9\u00e9n centrale plek. De beschikbare klimaatdata over Aruba is volgens de initiatiefnemers nog beperkt en versnipperd. Naast gegevens bevat het platform ook impactkaarten, verhalen en illustraties over de effecten van klimaatverandering op het eiland.<\/p>\n

De atlas is opgezet om overheden, maatschappelijke organisaties, bedrijven, onderzoekers en andere betrokkenen beter inzicht te geven in de risico\u2019s en gevolgen van klimaatverandering. Daarmee moet het platform bijdragen aan een brede en gedeelde basis voor beleid en maatregelen rond klimaatresistentie op Aruba.<\/p>\n

De Climate Impact Atlas maakt deel uit van het NCRC en is openbaar toegankelijk via ncrc-aruba.org<\/a>. Het NCRC is een samenwerkingsverband van publieke, private, maatschappelijke en academische instellingen, samen met internationale partners, dat zich richt op het versterken van de klimaatresistentie van Aruba.<\/p>\n

Voor de ontwikkeling van de atlas werkte het NCRC samen met de CAS Foundation (Climate Adaptation Services) en diverse lokale instellingen en deskundigen, waaronder Metabolic Foundation, Rosabelle Illes, de Universiteit van Aruba, het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, de Meteorologische Dienst Aruba, de Directie Natuur en Milieu en de Aruba Conservation Foundation. De financiering van het project kwam van het Nederlandse International Panel on Deltas, Coasts and Islands (IPDC).<\/p>\n
