ORANJESTAD \u2014 Meer dan 19.000 gepensioneerden op Aruba ontvangen vanaf 1 mei een maandelijkse reparatietoeslag van 250 florin. Dat heeft premier Mike Eman deze week bekendgemaakt. Volgens de regering is de maatregel bedoeld als sociale correctie voor ouderen die moeite hebben om rond te komen.<\/p>\n

In een persverklaring stelt regeringspartij AVP dat veel gepensioneerden onder het bestaansminimum leven en moeite hebben om vaste lasten, boodschappen en medicijnen te betalen. Met de toeslag wil het kabinet extra financi\u00eble ruimte bieden aan huishoudens met een beperkt pensioeninkomen.<\/p>\n

Volgens Eman was het aanvankelijke voornemen om de verhoging op 400 florin vast te stellen, maar zou de financi\u00eble situatie van het land daarvoor momenteel onvoldoende ruimte laten. De premier verwees daarbij naar de budgettaire erfenis van de vorige regering.<\/p>\n

De regering wijst er verder op dat eerder ook maatregelen zijn genomen om de kosten van medicijnen voor gepensioneerden te verlagen. In combinatie met de nieuwe toeslag moet dat leiden tot merkbare verlichting van de maandelijkse uitgaven van ouderen.<\/p>\n

AVP noemt de verhoging een stap in het herstel van waardigheid en bestaanszekerheid voor gepensioneerden. De partij benadrukt dat ouderen die hebben bijgedragen aan de opbouw van Aruba ondersteuning verdienen in een periode van stijgende kosten van levensonderhoud.<\/p>\n

De maatregel maakt deel uit van het sociaal-economisch beleid van het kabinet AVP-Futuro. Nadere informatie over de uitvoering van de reparatietoeslag wordt naar verwachting op korte termijn bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
