ORANJESTAD \u2014 Gepensioneerden op Aruba hebben onlangs een extra bedrag van 250 florin aan reparatietoeslag op hun pensioen ontvangen. Dat besluit is genomen door het kabinet AVP-FUTURO, met steun van de coalitiefracties in de Staten.<\/p>\n

AVP-fractieleider Jennifer Arends-Reyes stelt in een persbericht dat de maatregel het engagement van de regering met de bevolking weerspiegelt. Volgens haar kregen gepensioneerden in de afgelopen zevenenhalf jaar slechts een beperkte verhoging van hun uitkering, gemiddeld neerkomend op ongeveer 30 florin per maand.<\/p>\n

Arends-Reyes zegt dat met de nieuwe verhoging uitvoering wordt gegeven aan een verkiezingsbelofte. Zij spreekt van een eerste substanti\u00eble stap om ouderen financieel meer ruimte te geven. Met de extra toeslag ontvangen gepensioneerden volgens haar op jaarbasis 3.000 florin meer.<\/p>\n

De parlementari\u00ebr benadrukt dat veel ouderen daardoor minder vaak voor de keuze komen te staan tussen dagelijkse boodschappen en de aanschaf van medicijnen. In dat verband wijst zij ook op maatregelen waardoor de bevolking niet langer voor medicijnen zou hoeven te betalen, wat volgens haar extra verlichting moet brengen.<\/p>\n

Volgens Arends-Reyes wordt daarmee in korte tijd begonnen met het nakomen van campagnebeloften. Zij wijst erop dat de huidige regering nog maar vier weken in functie is.<\/p>\n
