Het gaat om zijn eerste offici\u00eble verschijning voor de rechter na zijn recente arrestatie tijdens een Amerikaanse militaire operatie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De zaak wordt behandeld door de <strong>Southern District of New York<\/strong>, een federale rechtbank die vaker wordt ingezet bij zware internationale drugs- en terrorismezaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zware aanklachten<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Volgens het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie wordt Maduro geconfronteerd met meerdere ernstige aanklachten, waaronder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Samenzwering tot narco-terrorisme<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Samenzwering tot invoer van grote hoeveelheden coca\u00efne in de Verenigde Staten<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wapen- en vuurwapendelicten<\/strong>, waaronder het bezit en de samenzwering tot het gebruik van zware wapens<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>De aanklachten bouwen voort op eerdere federale dossiers, maar zijn nu geactiveerd doordat Maduro zich in Amerikaanse hechtenis bevindt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Historisch moment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>De voorgeleiding van Maduro wordt gezien als een <strong>historisch moment<\/strong> in de verhouding tussen de Verenigde Staten en Venezuela. Niet eerder is een zittende Venezolaanse machthebber daadwerkelijk voor een Amerikaanse federale rechtbank verschenen op beschuldiging van grootschalige drugshandel en terrorismegerelateerde misdrijven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amerikaanse aanklagers stellen dat Maduro jarenlang leiding gaf aan een crimineel netwerk dat betrokken was bij internationale drugssmokkel en dat de opbrengsten daarvan werden gebruikt om zijn machtspositie te behouden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vervolg van de procedure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tijdens de zitting van maandag zal Maduro formeel worden ge\u00efnformeerd over de aanklachten, zal hij zich al dan niet schuldig verklaren en beslist de rechter over de verdere voorlopige hechtenis.
