Golf van Aden, 29 september 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Een Nederlands vrachtschip, de MV Minervagracht<\/em>, is maandag zwaar beschadigd geraakt nadat het werd getroffen door een explosief in de Golf van Aden. Dat heeft rederij Spliethoff uit Amsterdam bevestigd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens het bedrijf brak er brand uit aan boord en raakten twee bemanningsleden gewond. In totaal bevonden zich negentien opvarenden op het schip. Zij worden momenteel met helikopters ge\u00ebvacueerd naar nabijgelegen schepen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het schip ligt na de aanval stuurloos in zee en staat in brand. Het incident vond plaats op ongeveer 128 zeemijl ten zuidoosten van de Jemenitische stad Aden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mogelijke achtergrond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel nog niemand de aanval heeft opge\u00ebist, wijzen analisten op eerdere aanvallen door Houthi-rebellen uit Jemen. Deze groep, die banden heeft met Iran, heeft de afgelopen jaren vaker commerci\u00eble schepen in de Rode Zee en Golf van Aden aangevallen. Vaak ging het om schepen waarvan zij dachten dat die gelinkt waren aan Isra\u00ebl of bondgenoten in de oorlog in Gaza. Vooralsnog is er geen aanwijzing dat de Minervagracht<\/em> een dergelijke connectie had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gevolgen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

De aanval onderstreept de aanhoudende dreiging voor de internationale scheepvaart in een van de belangrijkste zeeroutes ter wereld. Behalve de humanitaire gevolgen voor de bemanning, leidt de situatie tot grote zorgen binnen de scheepvaartsector. Experts vrezen dat incidenten zoals deze verzekeringskosten verder zullen opdrijven, schepen dwingen om om te varen, en daarmee de wereldwijde handelsstromen verstoren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vervolg<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Internationale maritieme organisaties en diverse marines volgen de situatie nauwlettend. Het is nog onduidelijk of het schip kan worden geborgen of dat het verloren moet worden gegeven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
