De organisatie erkent dat de menselijke invloed, van bandenstrepen over vroegere holen tot beton, lawaai en felle lichten, het leefgebied van de Shoco steeds verder heeft aangetast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWij zijn sorry voor de chaos waar ooit vrede was,\u201d schrijft de organisatie. \u201cWe hebben jou, onze levende symbool van Aruba, behandeld alsof je onzichtbaar was. In dat proces hebben we gefaald, niet alleen tegenover jou, maar ook tegenover Moeder Aarde, ons eiland en toekomstige generaties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hoopvolle wending<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Toch klinkt er ook hoop in de brief. Aruba Birdlife Conservation benadrukt dat steeds meer mensen wakker worden en zich inzetten voor de bescherming van de Shoco. Zowel inwoners, kinderen, ouderen als trouwe bezoekers beginnen in te zien dat het voortbestaan van de kleine uil onlosmakelijk verbonden is met dat van het eiland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUitsterven is geen optie,\u201d stelt de organisatie krachtig. \u201cJa, de weg is lang en hobbelig, maar er is hoop. Harten beginnen zich te openen, stemmen worden luider, en steeds meer handen reiken uit om jou te beschermen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Toekomstbeeld<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>De brief eindigt met een toekomstvisie waarin Aruba eindelijk in harmonie samenleeft met de Shoco: een eiland waar stilte terugkeert, de hemel opnieuw donker wordt zonder lichtvervuiling, en de Shoco zijn plek weer kan innemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tot die dag vraagt de organisatie de vogel nog wat geduld te hebben: <em>\u201cWij zijn sorry voor de manieren waarop we je hebben beledigd.
