Van de ijzige pieken in Alaska tot de smeltende kraters in Hawa\u00ef rommelen meerdere vulkanen in de Verenigde Staten nu met verschillende officieel op alert. Maar geen paniek: het is de Aarde die doet wat de Aarde doet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In de afgelopen weken zijn vulkanen verspreid over de Verenigde Staten begonnen te rommelen, wat waarschuwingen van geologische instanties heeft uitgelokt en de aandacht van wetenschappers en het publiek heeft getrokken. Van de Shishaldin- en Pavlof-vulkanen in Alaska tot Mauna Loa en K\u012blauea op Hawa\u00ef is de seismische activiteit toegenomen, met gasemissies, kleine uitbarstingen, bodembeweging en diepe ondergrondse trillingen. Recentelijk barstte K\u012blauea uit op 9 juli 2025, wat leidde tot waarschuwingen voor asval. In Alaska blijft lava uitbarsten in de krater van Great Sitkin, met aanhoudende lage seismische activiteit. Zelfs in Washington State vond een aardbevingszwerm plaats bij Mount Rainier in juli 2025, hoewel dit geen directe vulkanische uitbarsting impliceert. Daarnaast wordt een onderzeese vulkaan voor de kust van Oregon, Axial Seamount, voorspeld mogelijk uit te barsten in 2025, maar dit vormt geen gevaar voor de kust.<\/p>\n

Hoewel deze toename in vulkanisch gedrag alarmerend kan klinken, verzekeren experts dat dit deel uitmaakt van de normale ritmes van een geologisch actieve planeet. De VS herbergen meer dan 160 actieve vulkanen, waarvan vele langs de Pacifische Ring van Vuur liggen, een regio berucht om zijn seismische onrust. Deze periodieke opflakkeringen worden nauwlettend gevolgd met satellietgegevens, seismische sensoren en gasanalysatoren, waardoor wetenschappers patronen kunnen detecteren, uitbarstingen kunnen voorspellen en waarschuwingen tijdig kunnen uitgeven.<\/p>\n

Bij Yellowstone National Park, een supervulkaan, doen geruchten de ronde dat dieren massaal vluchten, wat angsten aanwakkert voor een dreigende uitbarsting. Virale video’s tonen beren, bizons, elanden en andere dieren die schijnbaar in paniek wegrennen, wat leidt tot speculaties over een ‘superuitbarsting’. Echter, parkbeheerders en wetenschappers ontkennen dit: er is geen ongebruikelijke dierenmigratie gaande, en de video’s zijn misleidend, vaak oud of genomen buiten het park, of zelfs een hoax van een influencer. Dieren verplaatsen zich om praktische, biologische redenen, zoals voedselzoeken of seizoensveranderingen, en niet vanwege vulkanische dreiging.<\/p>\n

De National Park Service benadrukt: “Dit gerucht is vals.” Yellowstone toont momenteel geen tekenen van een naderende uitbarsting, en de activiteit blijft binnen normale grenzen.
