Het middeleeuwse kasteel, dat hoog op een heuvel ligt en een wijd uitzicht biedt over de omgeving, heeft grote strategische waarde. De inname maakt deel uit van een bredere uitbreiding van de Isra\u00eblische grondoperaties in Libanon, waarbij troepen steeds verder het Libanese grondgebied intrekken. Daarmee overschrijden zij de oorspronkelijke grens die zij zichzelf hadden gesteld: de rivier de Litani.<\/p>\n
Tegelijkertijd heeft het Isra\u00eblische leger het evacuatiegebied in Zuid-Libanon verder uitgebreid. Inwoners van een groter deel van de regio worden opgeroepen hun woningen te verlaten vanwege de voortdurende militaire operaties.<\/p>\n
De Isra\u00eblische strijdkrachten voeren al wekenlang intensieve acties uit tegen Hezbollah, de Libanese militante beweging die door Isra\u00ebl en westerse landen als terroristische organisatie wordt beschouwd. Zowel vanuit de lucht als over land worden posities van de groepering aangevallen.<\/p>\n
