De Groot heeft een indrukwekkende staat van dienst in de Amerikaanse entertainmentindustrie, met eerdere functies bij MTV Entertainment Studios en Sony Pictures Television. Voorafgaand aan zijn vaste aanstelling werkte hij al anderhalf jaar als adviseur voor TBS, waarbij hij een sleutelrol speelde bij het opzetten van een nieuw kantoor in Los Angeles.
