ORANJESTAD \u2014 De Rainbow Warriors Core Foundation heeft in het kader van Wereld Intellectuele Eigendomsdag op 26 april opnieuw aandacht gevraagd voor het belang van intellectuele eigendomsrechten. De organisatie koppelt dat aan haar jaarlijkse campagne Building Up STEAM for Sustainable Development<\/em>, die loopt van 12 april tot en met 20 juni.<\/p>\n

Volgens de stichting werd de campagne, die in 2022 begon onder de naam Eight to Eight, Because Our Planet Can\u2019t Wait<\/em>, omgevormd tot een bredere STEAM-benadering. STEAM staat daarbij voor wetenschap, technologie, techniek, kunstmatige intelligentie en wiskunde.<\/p>\n

Wereld Intellectuele Eigendomsdag wordt jaarlijks op 26 april gehouden. Die datum verwijst naar 26 april 1970, toen het wereldverdrag over intellectuele eigendom in werking trad. In 2000 besloten de lidstaten om die dag officieel aan te wijzen als Wereld Intellectuele Eigendomsdag.<\/p>\n

De dag is bedoeld om stil te staan bij de rol van een evenwichtig systeem van intellectuele eigendom in het stimuleren van artistieke ontwikkeling en technologische innovatie. Daarbij gaat het onder meer om octrooien, merken, industri\u00eble ontwerpen en auteursrechten, die volgens de organisatie bijdragen aan het belonen van creativiteit en vernieuwing, terwijl ook onderzoekers, ontwerpers, kunstenaars en de samenleving daarvan profiteren.<\/p>\n

Het thema van 2026 is Intellectual Property and Sports: Ready, Set and Innovate!<\/em>. Daarmee ligt de nadruk op de betekenis van intellectuele eigendom binnen de sportwereld. De stichting wijst erop dat deze rechten onder meer een rol spelen bij de bescherming van innovatieve sportuitrusting en technologie, maar ook bij merkontwikkeling, vormgeving en media-inhoud rond sport.<\/p>\n

In de toelichting wordt benadrukt dat octrooien innovatie in sportmateriaal en technologie beschermen, terwijl merken bijdragen aan de herkenbaarheid van teams, atleten en sportorganisaties. Ook modelrechten en auteursrechten worden genoemd als instrumenten die het uiterlijk van sportproducten en de verspreiding van sportbeelden en andere content beschermen, inclusief in de snel groeiende e-sportsector.<\/p>\n

Volgens de organisatie is sport inmiddels meer dan alleen competitie en entertainment. De sector is uitgegroeid tot een omvangrijke industrie die werkgelegenheid en economische kansen cre\u00ebert. Juist daarom is het volgens de stichting belangrijk om intellectuele eigendommen binnen die sector goed te beschermen, beheren en benutten.<\/p>\n

Met de campagne wil de Rainbow Warriors Core Foundation het publiek bewust maken van de manier waarop intellectuele eigendom innovatie ondersteunt, sportprestaties helpt verbeteren en de band tussen fans, teams en bedrijven versterkt.<\/p>\n
