Volgens het resort betekent het project een nieuwe stap in het streven naar duurzaam en verantwoord toerisme.<\/p>\n<p>Het initiatief is opgezet in samenwerking met Rhakeem Samuel van Dr. Greenthumb Aruba \u2013 Garden Consultancy &amp; Maintenance. La Quinta wil met het project regeneratieve praktijken rechtstreeks opnemen in de dagelijkse operatie van het hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Daarbij is ook sprake van actieve betrokkenheid van medewerkers, partners en leden. Het resort introduceert met de tuin een zogenoemd \u2018Farm-to-Members and Staff\u2019-concept, waarbij verse producten op het eigen terrein worden geteeld voor gebruik binnen de organisatie.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens La Quinta sluit het project aan bij de eigen visie dat duurzaamheid van binnenuit begint en zich uitstrekt naar personeel, gasten en de Arubaanse gemeenschap.<\/p>\n<p>De tuin is gebaseerd op principes van landregeneratie en gaat daarmee verder dan traditionele landbouw. Bij syntropische agroforestry worden verschillende plantensoorten gecombineerd, wordt het organisch materiaal in de bodem verhoogd en wordt gewerkt in samenhang met natuurlijke cycli. Dat moet leiden tot herstel van de bodemgezondheid, een betere waterretentie en meer biodiversiteit.<\/p>\n<p>Op termijn moet zo een zelfvoorzienend ecosysteem ontstaan, waarbij de grond vruchtbaarder en weerbaarder wordt in plaats van uit te putten. Het resort stelt dat deze aanpak aansluit bij een wereldwijde beweging richting regeneratieve landbouw en duurzame toeristische ontwikkeling.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de lancering plantte president Stephen Scaturro van La Quinta de eerste boom. Daarmee werd symbolisch het startsein gegeven voor het project.<\/p>\n<p>La Quinta Beach Resort verwacht de opbrengst van de tuin in de komende periode steeds meer te integreren in de ervaring van gasten en medewerkers.
