ORANJESTAD \u2013 De Directie Volksgezondheid Aruba (DVG) heeft een gezondheidswaarschuwing uitgegeven naar aanleiding van een recente epidemiologische alert van de Pan-Amerikaanse Gezondheidsorganisatie (PAHO) over een toename van het aantal gevallen van gele koorts in Latijns-Amerika.<\/p>\n

Volgens PAHO werden in 2025 in totaal 346 besmettingen bij mensen bevestigd in de regio Amerika, waarvan 143 met dodelijke afloop. De zwaarst getroffen landen waren Bolivia, Brazili\u00eb, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru en Venezuela. In 2026 zijn tot nu toe 34 bevestigde gevallen geregistreerd, waaronder 15 sterfgevallen. Dit jaar zijn vooral Bolivia, Colombia, Peru en Venezuela getroffen.<\/p>\n

Gele koorts is een ernstige virusziekte die wordt overgedragen door de beet van een besmette mug, waaronder de Aedes aegypti<\/em>. De ziekte kan leiden tot zware complicaties, zoals leverschade, geelverkleuring van huid en ogen, bloedingen en in sommige gevallen overlijden.<\/p>\n

De belangrijkste symptomen zijn koorts, hoofdpijn, spierpijn, koude rillingen en rugpijn. DVG benadrukt dat de ziekte ernstig kan verlopen en in een aanzienlijk deel van de gevallen levensbedreigend is.<\/p>\n

De dienst roept inwoners die naar de genoemde landen reizen op om tijdig preventieve maatregelen te nemen. De vaccinatie tegen gele koorts moet minimaal tien dagen voor vertrek worden toegediend. Daarnaast adviseert DVG om zich goed te beschermen tegen muggenbeten, bijvoorbeeld met insectenwerende middelen en bedekkende kleding met lange mouwen en pijpen.<\/p>\n

Wie tijdens of na de reis klachten krijgt die passen bij gele koorts, wordt aangeraden direct medische hulp te zoeken. Volgens DVG is vaccinatie de meest effectieve manier om besmetting te voorkomen.<\/p>\n

Op Aruba zijn momenteel geen gevallen van gele koorts gemeld. Toch onderstreept de regionale situatie volgens DVG het belang van alertheid en voorlichting. Inwoners die naar Latijns-Amerika reizen, kunnen via telefoonnummer 5224200 een afspraak maken voor vaccinatie, minimaal tien dagen voor vertrek.<\/p>\n
