Daardoor is het mogelijk om meer dan eens per jaar griepachtige klachten te krijgen, aldus de Directie Volksgezondheid (DVG) in een toelichting van 11 maart 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens DVG wordt in de volksmond vaak gesproken van \u2018griep\u2019 wanneer iemand last heeft van hoest, een loopneus, keelpijn of koorts. In werkelijkheid kunnen zulke klachten echter door verschillende virussen worden veroorzaakt. De meest voorkomende zijn influenza, parainfluenza, RSV, rhinovirus en ook COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Dat is volgens de gezondheidsdienst ook de reden waarom iemand in hetzelfde jaar meerdere keren ziek kan worden met gelijkaardige symptomen. Verschillende respiratoire virussen circuleren het hele jaar door in de gemeenschap en kunnen vergelijkbare klachten veroorzaken.<\/p>\n<p>Op de vraag of COVID-19 nog bestaat, antwoordt DVG bevestigend. Het virus is nog steeds aanwezig en veroorzaakt, net als andere respiratoire virussen, griepachtige symptomen bij mensen die ermee in contact komen. COVID-19 wordt momenteel beschouwd als een van de virussen binnen de groep die zulke luchtwegklachten veroorzaakt.<\/p>\n<p>Testen op COVID worden daarom niet meer op dezelfde schaal uitgevoerd als voorheen, maar alleen nog op indicatie. Via het surveillancesysteem van DVG, dat de aanwezigheid van circulerende ziekten op Aruba monitort, wordt de aanwezigheid van COVID nog altijd vastgesteld.<\/p>\n<p>Voor risicogroepen blijven de aanbevelingen ongewijzigd. DVG adviseert onder meer 60-plussers en mensen met onderliggende aandoeningen of andere gezondheidsproblemen om zich tegen influenza en COVID te beschermen via vaccinatie.<\/p>\n<p>Mensen die vragen hebben, wordt aangeraden contact op te nemen met hun huisarts. Volgens DVG blijven deze virussen ziekenhuisopnames en ernstige complicaties veroorzaken, vooral bij personen met een kwetsbare gezondheid.<\/p>\n<p>Meer informatie is verkrijgbaar via de kanalen van
