Volgens de partij is het van belang om gezamenlijk nieuwe economische kansen voor Aruba te onderzoeken.<\/p>\n<p>De bijeenkomst maakt deel uit van een reeks gesprekken met verschillende stakeholders. Eerder sprak de fractie al met vertegenwoordigers van werknemers uit de publieke en semipublieke sector. Doel van de gesprekken is volgens MEP om informatie te delen en inzicht te krijgen in de opvattingen en gevoelens van betrokken partijen.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens het overleg met de Kamer van Koophandel benadrukte de fractie dat de omstandigheden voor Aruba volgens haar zijn veranderd sinds 3 januari 2026. MEP stelt dat ontwikkelingen die jarenlang niet mogelijk waren, sindsdien opnieuw bespreekbaar zijn geworden. Daarbij wees de fractie op verwachte grote investeringen in de Venezolaanse oliesector en de mogelijke rol die Aruba daarin zou kunnen spelen.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens MEP gaat het daarbij niet om de opening van een nieuwe raffinaderij op Aruba. De fractie noemt vooral de mogelijkheid om opslagtanks voor ruwe olie op het eiland te verhuren aan bedrijven die behoefte hebben aan opslagcapaciteit. Aruba zou door zijn geografische ligging gunstig zijn voor dergelijke activiteiten.<\/p>\n<p>De partij stelt verder dat deze vorm van economische ontwikkeling een relatief beperkte impact zou hebben op infrastructuur en milieu, terwijl zij wel extra inkomsten voor Aruba kan opleveren. Ook zouden er volgens MEP bedrijven bereid zijn te investeren in het herstel van bestaande tanks, zodat meer ruwe olie kan worden opgeslagen.<\/p>\n<p>Fractieleider Evelyn Wever-Croes noemt het daarom belangrijk dat Aruba deze mogelijkheid niet voorbij laat gaan. Volgens haar kan het eiland op relatief eenvoudige wijze extra inkomsten genereren en de economie verder diversifi\u00ebren, zonder dat dit directe kosten voor het land met zich meebrengt.<\/p>\n<p>MEP spreekt van een constructief overleg en bedankt de Kamer van Koophandel voor de deelname aan het gesprek.
