ORANJESTAD \u2014 In het hoger beroep van de strafzaak \u2018New York\u2019 vindt maandag 9 februari 2026 een regiezitting plaats. Dat heeft het Openbaar Ministerie Aruba bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n

Een regiezitting dient ter voorbereiding van de inhoudelijke behandeling van een strafzaak. Tijdens zo\u2019n zitting wordt onder meer gekeken naar de stand van het onderzoek en de vraag of aanvullend onderzoek nodig is, bijvoorbeeld door het horen van extra getuigen. Daarna wordt besloten of en wanneer de zaak inhoudelijk kan worden behandeld.<\/p>\n

De zaak \u2018New York\u2019 draait om ambtelijke corruptie en schending van het ambtsgeheim door een politieagent en vier journalisten in de periode van januari 2021 tot en met maart 2023. Het Gerecht in Eerste Aanleg veroordeelde de betrokkenen eerder tot gevangenisstraffen, deels voorwaardelijk, en taakstraffen.<\/p>\n

Meerdere verdachten gingen aanvankelijk in hoger beroep tegen hun veroordeling, maar uiteindelijk heeft slechts \u00e9\u00e9n verdachte dat beroep doorgezet. De overige verdachten hebben zich neergelegd bij hun eerdere veroordelingen.<\/p>\n

De regiezitting van maandag heeft daarom alleen betrekking op verdachte N.M.Q.C.d.A. Deze verdachte werd in eerste aanleg veroordeeld tot een gevangenisstraf van 18 maanden, waarvan 12 maanden voorwaardelijk, met een proeftijd van drie jaar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
