ORANJESTAD \u2014 De Arubaanse oud-marathonloper en triatleet Francisco \u2018Fijn\u2019 Lopez rijdt zondag 2 november zijn symbolische laatste race. Lopez, die al 26 jaar met de ziekte van Parkinson leeft, doet in een sportrolstoel mee aan de Lotto Cambiando Bida Run 2025 onder het motto \u2018Beter en beter, elke dag\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Met de actie wil de familie Lopez fondsen inzamelen voor Stichting SABA, die zorg biedt aan ouderen op Aruba. Volgens de initiatiefnemers is de opbrengst bestemd voor betere ondersteuning van Parkinsonpati\u00ebnten. Doneren kan via een online inzamelingsactie.<\/p>\n

Lopez is geboren en getogen op Aruba en woonde meer dan 35 jaar op Sint Maarten. Daar was hij onder meer actief als docent en bleef hij zich, ook nadat op 48-jarige leeftijd Parkinson bij hem werd vastgesteld, inzetten voor jongeren en voor bewustwording rond sport en gezondheid. Sinds 2017 woont hij weer op Aruba. Sinds juni van dit jaar verblijft hij in verzorgingstehuis SABA.<\/p>\n

De race start zondag om 6.00 uur bij het Betico Croes Sportcentrum in Santa Cruz en eindigt na 10 kilometer bij het Entertainment Center in Dakota. Langs de route is medische ondersteuning aanwezig, onder meer met een fietsende verpleegkundige en begeleiding via Tri Bike.<\/p>\n

Naast donaties worden ook dri-fit sportshirts verkocht ten bate van het initiatief. Die kunnen vooraf worden besteld via een online formulier en zijn na afloop ook verkrijgbaar bij de finish, zolang de voorraad strekt.<\/p>\n

De familie roept het publiek op om Lopez langs de route aan te moedigen. Bij het initiatief zijn onder meer SABA Aruba, Beyond Sport Limit Foundation Aruba, IBiSA Aruba en Tri Bike betrokken.<\/p>\n
