ORANJESTAD<\/strong> \u2014 Oppositiepartij MEP heeft scherpe kritiek geuit op premier Mike Eman naar aanleiding van diens recente bezoek aan Nederland. Volgens de partij heeft de premier Aruba tijdens een optreden op de Nederlandse televisie “zeer slecht afgeschilderd”.<\/p>\n

In een verklaring stelt MEP dat Eman twee weken in Nederland verbleef met een grote delegatie, wat volgens de partij gepaard ging met hoge kosten. De oppositie betwijfelt of de afgelegde bezoeken van zodanig belang waren dat een langdurig verblijf in het buitenland noodzakelijk was.<\/p>\n

Volgens MEP was de reis vooral bedoeld om het imago van de premier in Nederland te verbeteren. De partij verwijst daarbij naar reputatieschade die Eman in het verleden zou hebben opgelopen en stelt dat de eerste reacties in politieke kringen in Den Haag niet positief zouden zijn geweest.<\/p>\n

De zwaarste kritiek richt zich op uitspraken die de premier volgens MEP heeft gedaan in een Nederlands televisieprogramma. Daarin zou hij Aruba negatief hebben neergezet door te spreken over armoede en afval op het eiland, en bovendien het toerisme deels verantwoordelijk hebben gehouden voor de problemen.<\/p>\n

MEP erkent dat Aruba met uitdagingen kampt, maar stelt dat die met visie en daadkracht op eigen bodem moeten worden aangepakt. Volgens de partij past het niet dat de premier in het buitenland klaagt over binnenlandse problemen, terwijl het land juist behoefte heeft aan bestuur en concrete oplossingen.<\/p>\n

De partij zegt dat haar kandidaten in de wijken handtekeningen verzamelen tegen de Rijkswet HOFA en daarbij geregeld inwoners ontmoeten die ontevreden zijn over de handelwijze van de premier. MEP verwijt de regering verder dat zij te weinig resultaten boekt, intern verdeeld is en onderling strijd voert.<\/p>\n

Volgens de oppositie kunnen de uitlatingen van Eman negatieve gevolgen hebben voor het imago van Aruba in Nederland. Vooral Arubanen die daar wonen, zouden daar volgens MEP de gevolgen van kunnen ondervinden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
