Volgens de afdeling Infectieziekten ontvangt de dienst momenteel verschillende vragen uit de gemeenschap over de beschikbaarheid van het vaccin.<\/p>\n<p>Met een officieel bericht wil DVG de bevolking en in het bijzonder de risicogroepen informeren dat de vaccins nog niet binnen zijn, maar dat de levering op korte termijn wordt verwacht. Zodra de vaccins arriveren, zal DVG bekendmaken hoe de distributie in de verschillende wijken van Aruba zal plaatsvinden.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens de dienst is influenza meer dan een gewone griep. Op basis van cijfers van de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) overlijden wereldwijd jaarlijks ongeveer 290.000 mensen aan respiratoire complicaties als gevolg van influenza. Ernstige complicaties komen vooral voor bij zeer jonge kinderen, volwassenen met een onderliggende aandoening of kwetsbare gezondheid, ouderen boven de 60 jaar en zwangere vrouwen.<\/p>\n<p>Het influenzaseizoen loopt doorgaans van oktober tot en met mei. Om die reden organiseert DVG jaarlijks in deze periode opnieuw een vaccinatiecampagne tegen influenza, met als doel risicogroepen binnen de Arubaanse gemeenschap beter te beschermen.<\/p>\n<p>DVG adviseert mensen die willen weten of het influenzavaccin voor hen geschikt is, om dit te bespreken met hun huisarts of specialist.
