ORANJESTAD \u2014 MEP stelt dat premier Mike Eman in zijn toespraak in het parlement deze week een verkeerd beeld heeft gegeven van het financi\u00eble beleid van de partij. In een schriftelijke reactie zegt MEP dat geen sprake is geweest van een structureel beleid van belastingverhogingen gedurende zeven tot acht jaar, zoals door de premier zou zijn gesteld.<\/p>\n

Volgens de partij zijn eventuele belastingmaatregelen genomen in de nasleep van twee financi\u00eble crises. Daarbij wijst MEP op de schuldenpositie die de regering in 2017 zou hebben ge\u00ebrfd en op de periode waarin Aruba onder verscherpt financieel toezicht van Nederland kwam te staan.<\/p>\n

MEP stelt verder dat het land in die periode onder druk en voorwaarden noodleningen moest aangaan. Volgens de partij lag de nadruk daarbij niet alleen op extra inkomsten, maar ook op het verhogen van de productiviteit en het innen van belastingen bij groepen die volgens haar eerder onvoldoende afdroegen.<\/p>\n

De partij zegt dat een land niet blijvend kan blijven lenen om schulden en rente te betalen, maar eigen inkomsten moet genereren om de overheidsfinanci\u00ebn houdbaar te maken.<\/p>\n

MEP benadrukt dat het gevoerde beleid volgens haar heeft bijgedragen aan herstel van de financi\u00eble geloofwaardigheid en stabiliteit van Aruba. Daarbij verwijst de partij naar een begrotingsoverschot en naar erkenning van onder meer het Internationaal Monetair Fonds (IMF), het College Aruba financieel toezicht (CAft) en de Nederlandse regering.<\/p>\n

Tot slot stelt MEP dat Aruba volgens de partij in een veel kwetsbaardere positie zou zijn gekomen als gekozen was voor een beleid waarbij nieuwe leningen zouden worden gebruikt om bestaande schulden af te lossen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
