ORANJESTAD<\/strong> \u2014 Parlementari\u00ebr Xiomara Maduro vraagt het kabinet AVP FUTURO om op korte termijn duidelijkheid te geven over de situatie rond AWSS. Volgens haar is het project van groot belang voor de volksgezondheid, de milieubescherming en de toekomst van het toerisme op Aruba.<\/p>\n

AWSS is opgezet als vervanging van de huidige RWZI-installatie. Volgens Maduro is die zuiveringsinstallatie, die circa veertig jaar oud is, slechts in staat om ongeveer 4.000 kubieke meter afvalwater per dag te verwerken, terwijl hotels en bedrijven in Noord gezamenlijk meer dan 12.000 kubieke meter per dag produceren.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe installatie is ontworpen door deskundigen van het Nederlandse bedrijf Haskoning en zou een capaciteit krijgen van 16.000 kubieke meter per dag. De investering voor een moderne en effici\u00ebnte installatie wordt geraamd op 250 miljoen florin.<\/p>\n

Maduro wijst erop dat toeristen via de ED-card momenteel 20 dollar betalen en dat deze opbrengst rechtstreeks bestemd is voor de financiering van AWSS. Volgens haar hebben verschillende banken en geldverstrekkers al vertrouwen uitgesproken in het financieringsmodel en zijn zij bereid de nodige investeringen te ondersteunen.<\/p>\n

Zij stelt echter dat de nieuwe regering AVP FUTURO is begonnen met het vervangen van leden van de raad van toezicht en de directeur, waardoor volgens haar een situatie is ontstaan die in strijd is met goed bestuur. Daardoor zou het AWSS-project zijn stilgevallen zonder duidelijke toelichting.<\/p>\n

Volgens Maduro is AWSS gebaseerd op de regels van de code voor goed ondernemingsbestuur, waarbij banken en financiers goedkeuring moeten geven aan alle bestuursleden. Als de regering wijzigingen wil doorvoeren, dan moet zij volgens haar met een concreet plan komen en geen onzekerheid cre\u00ebren die Aruba blootstelt aan onnodige milieurisico\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Maduro waarschuwt dat Aruba zonder snel optreden te maken kan krijgen met ernstige milieuproblemen en schade aan het toerisme. Zij vindt dat de bevolking recht heeft op transparantie, richting en een duidelijk besluit van het kabinet over de toekomst van AWSS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
